Gift from devoted alumnus boosts Legacy Hall

Peter Jones (BS Accounting ’77), a College of Business Alumni Hall of Fame member, rarely ventures far from the Florida State University campus, in spirit or in person. He serves on numerous FSU and college boards and committees, including the finance department’s Student Investment Fund Board and Finance Professional Advocacy Board, the latter of which he chairs. "I'm very active on campus in a variety of ways, because I want to be," Jones said. "I love FSU." That explains a recent gift from Jones and his wife, Mary Lee,to fund the financial laboratory/trading room in Legacy Hall, the college’s future home.

Soaring inflation and its threat to the U.S. economy gave the Federal Reserve no choice but to raise interest rates last month and to signal further increases ahead, said William Christiansen, longtime chair of the college’s finance department and an expert on the topic to news organizations. Set up to succeed: Earning a Master of Business Administration (MBA) at Florida State in 2007 gave Sherry Thompson the critical skills she needed to advance her career. “FSU’s MBA professors teach relevant, ready-to-use concepts and skills that are appropriate for today’s workforce,” said Thompson, director of financial planning and analysis at Mainline Information Systems in Tallahassee. “I landed a job in financial analysis shortly after I graduated and started contributing immediately. In addition to providing quality instruction, FSU’s program included access to mentors and advisors, who invested their time and shared their knowledge with students.”

Offered online or on campus, the college’s MBA program is accepting applications until June 1 for fall entry. FSU business alumni and students with the highest GPAs are now eligible for GMAT waivers.
