Who celebrated last week? We did!
“It’s amazing to me,” said Dr. William T. Hold. “I sit and wonder, ‘How did this ever happen?’” Hold spoke last week during a celebration of 10 years for the Dr. William T. Hold/The National Alliance Program in Risk Management and Insurance – the program that bears, as benefactors, his name and the name of the organization he co-founded. The event included a focus on this year’s No. 1 ranking by U.S. News and World Report. The dinner and ceremony featured employees and board members from The National Alliance who joined the College of Business and Florida State University in three hours of celebration and reflection. |

How Top 25 excellence becomes less taxing
Allen Blay, EY Professor and chair of the Department of Accounting, says students come to the College of Business with a “fire lit under them” – and the college keeps it burning. Companies have taken note. “The employers who hire our students consider FSU one of their favorite places to recruit because our students outperform …” Blay says. It’s little wonder that accounting joins virtually every other college program in the Top 25 rankings of U.S. News & World Report. “We’re proud of our accounting program, especially for the elite students it attracts and the globally respected faculty that keeps our college climbing the rankings toward preeminence,” Dean Michael Hartline says. |

What makes our ‘Dancing CPA’ tick
Dancing, singing, joking and tax forms – that’s what. It’s no secret that Miles Romney, assistant professor of accounting, thrives to be seen and to amuse. He practically lives for it. He even once sought to get paid for it – marketing himself years ago in his hometown of San Diego as the “Dancing CPA.” Most notable at FSU is a YouTube video from three years ago in which Romney – during a timeout late in a close game against Clemson University – jerks his head against his shoulder like a cyborg, rolls his hips like Elvis and runs his hand over his shaved head like Danny from “Grease.” |

Why boxes of journals are headed to Ethiopia
Bruce Lamont’s office features cleared shelves and dozens of boxes. But he isn’t going anywhere. He’s sending his academic journals on a benevolent 8,000-mile journey to a new home. Lamont, chair of the Department of Management and the Jim Moran Eminent Scholar in Business Administration, is donating his four-decades-long collection of journals to Addis Ababa University’s College of Business and Economics, in Ethiopia. It is Lamont’s way of honoring and helping a business school in one of the world’s poorest countries. |

Military friendly: For a career military man, Peter Miller said the college’s online Master of Science in Management Information Systems provided the right balance of graduate education, calling it an impressive combination of “the flexibility to complete it on my time and the weekly structure to keep me on track in every class.” Miller, a 2018 MS-MIS graduate who now serves as command master chief at the Navy Operational Support Center in Tampa, also touted the opportunities to connect with other students through weekly discussions and projects. “I have gained a great amount of new knowledge in the MIS field that I could use immediately after retiring from the Navy.”
The college’s MS-MIS program recently ranked No. 5 among public schools on U.S. News & World Report’s list of best online graduate business programs for military veterans. June 1 is the next application deadline for the college’s online master’s programs in Business Administration and MIS, and GMAT waivers are available for FSU business alumni with the highest GPAs.
