A significant donation introduced at an altitude of 34,000 feet is helping to keep the college soaring on behalf of its students. The $525,000 gift from alumnus and longtime FSU supporter Christopher Iansiti and his partner, Michael A. Fornaro, established the Christopher E. Iansiti Endowed Directorship in the Center for Professional Success. Iansiti initiated discussion about the gift last fall via text message with Dean Michael Hartline, who was on a flight above Florida. The investment sparks exciting initiatives for the center, with Luke Hopkins taking on the title of Christopher E. Iansiti Director. |

Alumnus Mike Cheezem (B.S. Finance ’75) and his wife, Katherine, committed $1 million to name the Cheezem Family Landing/Undergraduate Collaboration Commons in Legacy Hall, the college’s future home, scheduled to open in 2025. Cheezem, founder and CEO of St. Petersburg-based JMC Communities, said he and his wife made the gift largely to advance the college’s journey to preeminence. “I remain truly impressed with the quality of the faculty and staff members, programs and students, who are getting equipped to find their niche, become successful and make a difference,” he said. |

Alumnus Kevin Little (BS Accounting ’92) committed a major gift to name the Kevin S. Little Commons in Legacy Hall. The gift follows the October groundbreaking of the world-class facility, and it marks his second major investment to fund the project. A previous gift named the Kevin S. Little Breakout Room. “To see shovels go into the ground was inspiring,” said Little, a college Board of Governors executive committee member. “It made the building that much more real, and I was excited to make another contribution toward seeing it become a reality.” |

Speaking of Legacy Hall …
“We've gone vertical!” Dean Michael Hartline declared this month on Facebook, referring to construction of the college’s future home. Hartline posted a photo that showed proof of perpendicular progress: “You're looking at the beginning of the elevator shaft, the base of one tower crane, a bunch of pile caps and more than five miles of piles (underground). Legacy Hall is coming out of the ground just in time for the fall semester! #OurFutureIsWOW #FSUBiz.”

Donna Abood (BS Marketing ’81), a longtime university supporter and a 2013 inductee into the college’s Alumni Hall of Fame, began her two-year term as chair of the college’s Board of Governors on July 1. With a penchant for action and simultaneously launching and managing multiple projects, she outlined initiatives that will benefit students, board members and the college. She said it all comes down to board members working together to trumpet the college’s Path to Preeminence and to strengthen a college hallmark – career opportunities for students and graduates. “Twelve months from now,” she said, “I hope we see relative real change from these initiatives.” |

Dean Hartline knows his students’ needs, and he knew he had a supportive audience. So, he got right to the point in late March and asked Board of Governors members to personally help fund an emerging investment priority: student professional development. Former board members and chairs Mark and Nan Hillis, both college Alumni Hall of Fame members, attended the meeting and stepped up, as they so often do – gifting $50,000 to establish the Mark and Nan Casper Hillis Professional Development Endowment for Excellence in Real Estate. |

Kathleen McCullough has been promoted to senior associate dean for academic affairs – one of an abundance of faculty and staff promotions, hirings and changes across departments and centers as the College of Business embarks on the 2023-24 calendar year. “I am deeply appreciative of Kathleen’s wisdom, support and humor over the last eight years and look forward to many more years to come,” Dean Hartline said. He said all the promotions, changes and additions “keep us on our journey to becoming one of the top business schools in the world.” |

Hartline wins big in Vegas
Dean Hartline early this month accepted Beta Alpha Psi’s 2023 Outstanding Dean Award at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas. He brought along his alter ego, social media star #FlatDeanHartline, and told a crowd of mostly students: “I’m delighted to be with all of you inside this iconic Las Vegas hotel and casino, where I feel I’ve won bigger than anyone. And #FlatDeanHartline agrees. I know that because he’s smiling.” |
