Great Give: Two college efforts to support

On March 6, you can help the college through FSU’s 24-hour online Great Give, a university-wide day of giving that allows students, employees, alumni and friends to support important projects. The college’s campaigns focus on efforts to engage business-intent students during their first year on campus and to launch a 75th Anniversary Fund that will help the college celebrate the landmark occasion. The latter campaign’s events and activities include the creation and installation of an emblematic stained-glass window in the Florida State Heritage Museum (Dodd Hall); the planning and hosting of a 75th Anniversary Celebration; and a grand-opening celebration of Legacy Hall, the college’s cutting-edge future home.

Legacy Hall: Building dreams, floor by floor

The college’s future home continues to impressively take form, already resembling renderings that architect Goody Clancy created years ago when Legacy Hall remained a dream. That includes the building’s signature steep-pitched roofs that reflect FSU’s Jacobian architecture. The building will mark the largest academic space on campus, with five floors to accommodate future growth. It remains on schedule to open in the fall of 2025. See some of our most recent photos, some of which show the burial of a door that featured signatures from people throughout the college community, and remind yourself: Our Future is Wow! And speaking of wow, Dean Michael Hartline on Sunday shared on social media a short nighttime video of Legacy Hall and declared: “Legacy Hall at night is truly breathtaking! Only 18 more months!”

Digital twin: New home is virtually here

More than a year before its scheduled completion, the college’s future home boasts a digital twin. #FSUBiz partnered with VictoryXR, a digital reality content company, to create the Legacy Hall “metaverse.” A new video from the company lets you stroll through the building’s stunning lobby, continue into the Gail and Bob Knight Auditorium, browse the Peter and Mary Lee Jones Trading Room and get a virtual feel for the wow to come in 2025 when the physical building is scheduled to open. The virtual twin is part of a larger pilot program that the college developed with the support of VictoryXR and Meta, owner of Facebook and Instagram, to bring virtual reality technology to the classroom.

Faculty Hall of Fame: Two await enshrinement

Patrick Maroney and Donald Nast next month will become the latest inductees into the Charles A. Rovetta Faculty Hall of Fame. Maroney, who retired in 2013, led the graduate programs into the digital age, set up the risk management and insurance program (now called the Dr. William T. Hold/The National Alliance Program in Risk Management and Insurance) for preeminence, and recruited faculty members who continue to make lasting contributions to the college. Nast, who retired in 2005, helped the college cut its path to preeminence as an ambassador and Department of Finance stalwart who spent his last 26 years as chair. They’ll be inducted March 26 during the 2024 faculty and staff awards dinner and celebration.
